At one point in history, Panago was THE pizza for me to order, I find now however, it has consistently gone downhill in terms of quality.  I don’t know what it is and this review may be a bad stereotype as it could be tied to the one franchise in my area, but each and every time I’ve ordered Panago these past couple of months, I am disappointed, yet I keep going back, looking for that old pizza experience I used to enjoy.  To be completely honest, the highlight of the Panago experience in the Jalapeno Ranch dip so maybe that is the lure that keeps me coming back for more.

On this particular day I decided to go with my favourite pizza on the menu, the Tropical Hawaiian, as well as a half Cheese, half True Canadian on multigrain thincrust.  The breakdown of the Tropical Hawaiian:

Sweet + smoky tropical sauce, bacon, Canadian ham, pineapple, mozzarella + cheddar.

This was the first time I’ve ordered the True Canadian (and the last) but here is what it included:

Italian tomato sauce, extra pepperoni, bacon, sautéed mushrooms + mozzarella + cheddar.

Usually you can’t go wrong with the Tropical Hawaiian (if you’re a fan of Hawaiian pizza), but lately, there seems to be less and less toppings, less cheese, less pineapple, and on this particular day, both pizzas were borderline cold (there is nothing worse than cold pizza when you are starving and expecting a hot pizza):

Luke-warm Pizza = limp

They might as well rename their Cheese pizza to a crust and dough pizza as it is lightly speckled with cheese, so much so that you only taste cardboard.  The True Canadian, at first glance on the menu, made me think of Pizza Hut’s Canadian, which in hindsight, is a good indication that I obviously enjoyed the Pizza Hut version, this one, not so much – the mushrooms could have been snails or oysters for all I know, pieces of flavourless rubber, here’s their description:

Italian tomato sauce, extra pepperoni, bacon, sautéed mushrooms + mozzarella + cheddar.

Cheese and True Canadian Pizza from Panago

Worst representation of Canada, ever

Honestly, if I were a tourist, ordering a True Canadian pizza from Panago, my first thought would be “weak-sauce” – this pizza was horrible and the word Canadian should be removed immediately.  Overall, yet another disappointing Panago experience, why do I keep going back? I blame the Jalapeno Ranch sauce, I wonder if I can just order the sauce for delivery? On the Foodzilla pizza-meter, I’m giving this a 1/5
